Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for the Gevrey-Chambertin Village 2023 from Domaine Trapet Père et Fils
Tasting
Appearance
The wine displays an elegant red colour.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with a lovely purity of red fruit, revealing precise aromas of raspberry and cherry. It then gains complexity with delicate floral notes and a subtle hint of incense and sweet spices.
Palate
On the palate, this wine offers a texture that is both fleshy and full of vitality. The structure is built on exceptionally fine, perfectly integrated tannins. Everything carries through to a saline, lively and particularly refreshing finish.
Food and wine pairing
This red wine pairs beautifully with roast poultry such as guinea fowl or chicken, as well as with delicate meats like veal rump or pork tenderloin with mushrooms. It will also enhance mildly flavoured game birds or mild soft and pressed cheeses.
Serving and ageing
Approachable in its youth thanks to its vibrant fruit, this Gevrey-Chambertin Village 2023 also has fine ageing potential. It can be cellared and enjoyed until around 2033.
The elegance and purity of a red wine from Gevrey-Chambertin
The estate
Founded in 1859 with the acquisition of its first plot, Domaine Trapet is an essential benchmark in Burgundy. Located in the heart of Gevrey-Chambertin, this family estate stands out for its remarkable heritage and its pioneering commitment to biodynamics since the 1990s. Today, Jean-Louis Trapet runs the estate, supported by his wife Andrée. Together, they carry on time-honoured expertise, favouring finesse, energy and a transparent expression of terroir, raising their cuvées among the most renowned in the region.
The vineyard
This wine comes from a vineyard of around three hectares, carefully spread across eight distinct plots within the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation. All the vines are farmed according to biodynamic principles, with recognised certifications such as Demeter and Biodyvin. This approach, which respects natural cycles and is combined with controlled yields and rigorous hand harvesting, preserves the vitality of the soils and ensures grapes in optimal health.
The vintage
2023 stands out as a particularly brilliant year for the region. Weather conditions allowed ideal phenolic ripeness to be reached while retaining remarkable natural acidity. The result is perfectly balanced berries, yielding juice that is rich, energetic and wonderfully fresh.
Vinification and ageing
The Gevrey-Chambertin Village 2023 is crafted according to a philosophy of minimal intervention, allowing the terroir to express itself. Around 30% whole bunches are included during vinification, a technical choice that brings floral lift and a delicate spicy backbone. Extractions are carried out very gently to preserve the finesse of the fruit. Finally, the wine undergoes measured ageing in oak barrels for twelve to fifteen months, with a moderate proportion of new wood, promoting integration and aromatic purity.
Grape variety
This wine is made exclusively from Pinot Noir (100%).
