Description
A Californian white wine combining finesse and complexity
The estate
Located in the AVA (American Viticultural Area) of Sta. Rita Hills, in the heart of Santa Barbara County on California's Central Coast, The Hilt Estate is an outstanding property, owned by Stan Kroenke. He also heads two prestigious estates: the legendary Screaming Eagle in California and Bonneau du Martray in Burgundy. Since 2004, winemaking has been entrusted to the talented oenologist Matt Dees, a recognized figure in the Californian wine scene. The Hilt has forged a unique identity with wines inspired by Burgundian elegance, showcasing the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grape varieties.
The vineyard
This Chardonnay Californian comes from two distinct vineyards: Bentrock Vineyard and Radian Vineyard. These plots benefit from the extreme maritime terroir of the Santa Rita Hills, characterized by windy ridges and poor soils that give each plot a unique identity.
Winemaking and aging
Aging for eleven months, divided between 35% new French oak, 60% neutral French oak, and 5% in stainless steel tanks.
Grape variety
This 2022 Estate Chardonnay from The Hilt is 100% Chardonnay.
