Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for the Marsannay Village 2023 by Domaine Trapet
Tasting
Appearance
This wine displays a beautiful red hue, deep and radiant.
Nose
The bouquet is expressive and inviting, releasing aromas of ripe red fruit such as strawberry and raspberry, interwoven with hints of blue fruit. The whole is subtly underscored by notes of delicate spice and charcuterie.
Palate
The palate stands out for its freshness and balance, driven by a lovely acidity. The texture is at once concentrated, generous and succulent, supported by seamlessly integrated tannins. The tasting experience extends into a long, lingering finish.
Serving and cellaring
To fully appreciate this wine, serve it at a temperature between 16 and 17°C. In its youth, decanting it for at least one hour before tasting is advised to allow it to open up. This wine can be enjoyed now, but it also has good ageing potential and can develop in the cellar until around 2036.
The freshness and depth of a Marsannay Pinot Noir
The estate
Although the family's winemaking history dates back to 1859, Domaine Trapet was officially founded in 1919 in Gevrey-Chambertin, in the heart of Burgundy. Now run by Jean-Louis Trapet, this iconic estate tends a vineyard of around 18.5 hectares spread across the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune. A pioneer of environmentally friendly viticulture, the domaine has been certified biodynamic since the late 1990s. Boasting an exceptional heritage that includes prestigious grands crus, it also stands out for having extended its expertise to Alsace, an venture managed by the younger generation.
The vineyard
The grapes for this cuvée come from the Marsannay appellation, located at the northernmost tip of the Côte de Nuits. The dedicated vineyard covers around 1.70 hectares, divided into several plots on renowned climats such as Grasses-Têtes and Grand Poirier. The vines, some of which are more than fifty years old, thrive on hillsides with soils of clay and limestone scree. All of these plots are rigorously farmed according to the principles of organic and biodynamic agriculture.
The vintage
The year allowed the berries to reach optimal phenolic ripeness, yielding perfectly ripe fruit while avoiding overripeness.
Winemaking and ageing
The winemaking follows a minimal-intervention approach, true to the domaine's philosophy. No fining agents or animal-derived products are used in the cellar, making this a wine that is entirely suitable for vegans.
Grape variety
Pinot Noir (100%).
