The estate
Founded in 2005, the Barons de Rothschild Champagne House is a family creation of the heart, resulting from the extraordinary alliance between its three branches (Château Mouton Rothschild, Château Clarke, Château Lafite Rothschild). This alliance aims to exalt the majestic terroir of Champagne, which, for all the world embodies quality and the art of living. For more than 250 years, the Rothschild family has been committed to "accomplishing great things." With its extensive winegrowing experience in Bordeaux, this family has been making excellent champagnes at the axis between skill and tradition.
The Barons de Rothschild Champagne House, which has had its head office in Reims, close to the eminent Champagne estates, since 2007, brings values of excellence, taste and conviviality, and reveals vintages with a singular style that harmoniously combines finesse, balance and purity.
The vineyard
This 2014 Barons de Rothschild Assemblage is made from two Champagne Grand Crus: Avize (Côte des Blancs) and Ambonnay (Montagne de Reims).
The vintage
A mild, wet winter preceded a particularly dry spring. Although the summer was rainy and cool, the mildness and warmth of September refined the grape ripening. Despite the low yields due to these climatic contrasts, the grapes harvested were of a high quality.
Winemaking and ageing
Exclusive use of the first press. Alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine was aged on fine lees for 6 to 7 months before being aged for a minimum of 7 to 8 years. Tasted in November 2021, this Extra Brut champagne was dosed at 5 grams of sugar per litre.
Blend
Chardonnay (50 %)
Pinot noir (50 %)
Tasting
Colour
The colour is of a beautiful golden hue, with a fine and delicate effervescence.
Nose
The nose is intense, with a delightfully refined expression of the blend’s two grape varieties. The salinity and freshness of the chardonnay are harmoniously combined with the chalky minerality, fruity (exotic fruits) structure and the typical grilled and spicy notes of the Pinot Noir.
Palate
A full and structured attack precedes a saline and balance palate, releasing delicious notes of fresh raspberry. The lasting finish of this champagne unveils almond, spice and toasted notes.
Food and wine pairing
A perfect apéritif, this champagne pairs beautifully with crustaceans or poultry in sauce, such as duck suprême.
To serve
For the best tasting, serve between 10°C and 12°C.
