The aromatic richness and minerality of a vintage Blanc de Blancs champagne unveiled by Baron de Rothschild
Founded in 2005, the Barons de Rothschild Champagne House has established strong relationships with partner producers to craft champagnes of a rare elegance from exceptional terroirs and rigorously selected grapes. "Accomplishing through great achievements", such has been the Rothschild family’s ambition for more than 250 years. Through the strength of its wine-growing experience, the family has joined forces with producers from Champagne to develop excellent champagnes which bring together know-how and tradition.
With the values of excellence, good taste and conviviality, the Barons de Rothschild Champagne House, which head office has been located in Reims since 2007, near illustrous estates in the Champagne wine region, unveils cuvées which unique style harmoniously combines finesse, balance and purity.
The champagnes of the Barons de Rothschild Champagne House are made of grapes derived from exceptional terroirs in Champagne, notably the Grand and Premier Crus of Côte des Blancs.
The 2008 Vintage Blanc de Blancs is the second vintage of the Barons de Rothschild Champagne House. Made from grapes harvested from the main crus of Côte des Blancs (Avize, Cramant, Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger…), this elegant champagne perfectly conveys an exceptional year in Champagne and the aromatic richness of its flagship grape variety, the chardonnay.
After a long and particularly cold winter, spring was marked by a mild balminess combined with significant rainfall. June and July were hot, sunny and dry, encouraging healthy development at the vineyard. Although August came with coolness and rain, the sunshine up to mid-September, when harvests were, was ideal for refining the perfectly ripe state of the vineyard. 2008 was a generous year for Champagne, impressing with the quality of its harvest.
This low-dose 2008 Vintage Blanc de Blancs from the Barons de Rothschild Champagne House benefits from 8 years of ageing on lees, as well as at least one year of ageing after disgorging, conferring maturity, richness and sophistication to this exceptional cuvée.
Ths wine is clear and silky, adorned with vivid golden tints. The effervescence is wonderfully delicate.
Wonderfully complex, the nose mixes aromas of fruit (exotic fruit, white peach) with tasty grilled notes and brioche overtones.
The palate seduces with its precision and smooth minerality, where chalky notes, mixed with an ashy touch, perfectly convey the richness of the great Champagne terroirs.
Food and wine pairings
This 2008 Vintage Blanc de Blans from the Barons de Rothschild Champagne House goes perfectly with a lobster carpaccio marinated in lemon caviar, a fillet of turbot poached in court-bouillon and truffled vegetables, or even scampi tartare with citrus fruits. A chicken supreme and foie gras risotto, or even veal medallions with morels, will bring out the freshness and minerality of this exceptional cuvée, which can also be enjoyed with desserts such as an iced parfait with bitter almonds or a strawberry coulis and pistachio biscuits.
