Description
The producer
Boasting a heritage of traditional know-how, the Gosset Champagne House has perpetuated its style over the centuries. The Gosset family has been established in Aÿ, a Grand Cru of Champagne, since the 16th century. For 16 generations, the Gosset Champagne House has been perpetuating excellence. The house is currently guarded by Odilon de Varine, the Cellar Master and Deputy General Manager. The house's champagnes are recognisable particularly due to the distinctive shape of its bottle, which was inspired by the "antique" bottles used in the 18th century.
The vineyard
Gosset owns plots of land in the Grands Crus and Premiers Crus of the Côte des Blancs and the Montagne de Reims. The 140 hectares of vineyards are planted on the crus of Cumières, Courmas, Chamery, Avenay, Vertus, Villers-Marmery, Grauves, Avize Trépail and Cuis.
The wine
Unique due to its prolonged ageing period, Gosset's "Les Célébrissimes" Celebris Vintage Extra Brut 1995 offers a unique and delectable expression. Made from a blend of Chardonnay (Avize, Cramant, Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger) and Pinot Noir (Ambonnay, Aÿ, Bouzy, Verzenay) vineyards, this exceptional champagne is presented in a refined golden box. The bottle is screen-printed in gold and red, highlighting the CELEBRIS monogram. This rare cuvée is offered in a very limited edition.
The vintage
A mild, rainy winter preceded a spring marked by a lot of sunshine and then a particularly hot summer. Although the high temperatures at the end of July were reminiscent of the scorching conditions of 1983 and 1976, the acidity, comparable to that of 1985, guarantees an exceptional ageing potential.
Vinification and ageing
"Les Célébrissimes" Celebris Vintage Extra Brut 1995 by Gosset has benefited from 20 years of ageing, including almost a decade on lees and then 12 years of additional ageing after disgorgement. This exceptional ageing in Champagne gives this cuvée an ideal balance between freshness, fruitiness and a rare and delicate harmony.
The blend
"Les Célébrissimes" Celebris Vintage Extra Brut 1995 by Gosset comprises a blend of Chardonnay (46%) and Pinot Noir (54%).
The tasting
Nose
The first expression of the wine's prolonged evolution, the nose reveals delicious aromas of pineapple, mango and rhubarb.
Palate
Precise, the palate presents delicious salty and aniseed flavours as well as a delicately acidic finish. The effervescence is refined and discreet, giving this wine the freedom to fully express its delicacy. Boasting a rare elegance, this cuvée is marked by its aromatic intensity that blends ripe and exotic fruit aromas, conferred by the Chardonnays from the Côte des Blancs and the Pinots Noirs coming from clayey-chalky soils.
Service
For an optimal tasting experience, it is recommended to decant this champagne so that it reveals all its typicity and aromatic richness.
