The producer
In the depths of its 3 kilometres of underground chalk tunnels of Gallo-Roman origin, the high-quality Joseph Perrier Champagne House perpetuates a know-how and a respect for tradition which has been transmitted from generation to generation. Each plot is vinified separately so that the identity of each of the Champagne terroirs can be expressed, with bespoke ageing processes.
The vineyard
Joseph Perrier's Cuvée Royale Brut Nature Blanc de Noirs Vintage 2010 is produced from the house’s best Pinot Noir grapes. The eponymous plot is located in Cumières, at the foot of the famous Montagne de Reims.
The wine
This uniquely expressive cuvée was born in 2007, the house wishing to enhance this terroir through a unique cuvée combining a parcel, a grape variety and a year.
The vintage
Although January was particularly cool, conditions were milder from March onwards. The cool nights in June delayed the flowering period. July was marked by strong heat combined with stormy spells. September was hot and sunny. Although all these conditions led to a slow and late ripening, the harvest boasted a high-quality and the grapes showcased perfect sugar levels.
Vinification and ageing
This Cuvée Royale Brut Nature Blanc de Noirs Vintage 2010 by Joseph Perrier is aged for a minimum of 7 years on lees. Disgorgement is carries out in small batches. As its name indicates, no dosage has been added.
The blend
This exceptional cuvée is a 100% Pinot Noir.
The tasting
Colour
This champagne showcases a beautiful golden straw colour.
Nose
The nose reveals candied fruit, peach, quince and roasted almond aromas, followed by subtle redcurrant notes when aerated.
Palate
A soft and delicious attack precedes a complex and aromatic palate where aromas of mirabelle plum jam and stewed white fruit blend harmoniously. The finish is persistent and seductive.
Food and wine pairing
The Cuvée Royale Brut Nature Blanc de Noirs Vintage 2010 is the ideal accompaniment to a butterfly-style langoustines with mesclun chiffonnade, or a lightly peppered roasted blue lobster.
Service
For an optimal tasting, it is recommended to cool this champagne in an ice bucket twenty minutes before serving. Enjoy at 8-10°C.
