An Elegant Tuscan Sangiovese
The Polissena wine from the Il Borro estate is like an act of love and a tribute to Tuscany’s most well-known varieties: the Sangiovese. The wine’s personality comes through in its expression : powerful, refined and balanced.
Ferrucio Ferragamo acquired the estate in 1993, which is located in San Giustino Valderno, at the foot of the Pratomagno mountains in the Tuscany region of Italy. The Il Borro vineyards are spread out over an area of 45 hectares and are between 300 to 500 meters above sea level. The domaine’s first vintage debuted in 2003.
Produced in the IGT Toscana Rosso appellation, Polissena comes from the Politi vineyard. The vineyard is the highest in the Il Borro estate and has shale soils that provide good drainage.
The Polissena 2010 Il Borro has a deep ruby colour. On the nose, the aromas give a true representation of the Tuscan terroir with notes of red berries, forest floor and leather. On the palate, there is a smooth and voluminous mouthfeel highlighted with black cherry and coffee flavours. It finishes with pronounced licorice notes. It is an elegant and balanced wine that is ready to be appreciated now.
Wine Advocate-Parker :
The more elaborate 2010 Polissena is pure Sangiovese that is aged in oak for one year. There-s more heft and density here. Cassis and plum drive the elegant finish. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022.
