Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for the Rosé Vintage Damien Hirst Édition Limitée 2010 by Dom Pérignon
Tasting
Appearance
The Rosé Vintage Damien Hirst Édition Limitée 2010 displays an elegant, deep and luminous pink hue with copper highlights. A fine, persistent bead enlivens the glass, a sign of long ageing on the lees.
Nose
The nose opens with beautifully ripe fruit and tropical accents, before revealing vibrant red fruit and generous, fleshy notes of quince and chocolate. Fresher notes then emerge, and the whole finishes on gentle spices: cardamom and vanilla.
Palate
The palate charms with power expressed with a light touch, combining intensity and precision. It is delicate, dense and silky, carried by a grainy texture and zesty, saline bitter notes. The remarkably seamless finish unfolds with elegance and majesty.
Food and wine pairings
This rosé Champagne is a superb match for seafood and briny flavours, such as raw fish or sea urchins, as well as vegetables with bitter notes such as artichoke. It also pairs beautifully with richer, more highly seasoned meats, such as spiced pork belly or duck breast with black olives, which highlight its structure and aromatic depth.
Serving and cellaring
The Rosé Vintage Damien Hirst Édition Limitée 2010 has already benefited from around twelve years of maturation in the cellar before its release, giving it great aromatic complexity right now. It can be enjoyed immediately, provided it has been stored in optimal conditions.
A Dom Pérignon rosé Champagne of radical power and timeless elegance
The estate
Dom Pérignon is the prestige Champagne brand of the house of Moët & Chandon, created in the 20th century in tribute to the Benedictine monk Dom Pierre Pérignon, cellar master of the Abbey of Hautvillers from 1668 to 1715. Now part of the LVMH group through Moët Hennessy, the house sources its grapes from more than 3,500 acres of vineyards spread across the finest terroirs of Champagne. Cellar master Vincent Chaperon oversees its creative direction, upholding an uncompromising standard: Dom Pérignon produces only vintage cuvées, and only when the year allows.
The vineyard
The grapes for this cuvée come from the finest terroirs of Champagne, including the seventeen villages classified as grand cru as well as the premier cru of Hautvillers, the only one permitted in the blend. The vines thrive on the chalky slopes of the Montagne de Reims, the Côte des Blancs and the Marne Valley, a landscape listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This mosaic of limestone soils and varied exposures offers Pinot Noir and Chardonnay ideal conditions for slow ripening and aromatic concentration.
The vintage
The 2010 vintage began with a particularly cold winter and spring in Champagne, delaying the vine's growth cycle. The summer proved hot and dry, promoting good ripening, before heavy rain in August brought botrytis to the Pinot Noir. A rigorously selective harvest made it possible to discard the affected bunches and keep only the healthiest grapes, giving rise to a balanced vintage rich in contrasts.
Winemaking and ageing
The Rosé Vintage Damien Hirst Édition Limitée 2010 is made using the traditional Champagne method, with a first fermentation followed by a second fermentation in bottle. The wine then undergoes a slow and masterful maturation in the cellar of around twelve years, allowing it to develop its full complexity while preserving the balance between power and lightness that the house seeks.
Grape varieties
This cuvée combines 55% Pinot Noir, which gives it power and structure, with 45% Chardonnay, bringing freshness and precision to the whole.
