Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes of the Hommage à Camille "Charmont" 2022 by Louis Roederer

Tasting

Appearance
Deep red with discreet purple highlights.

Nose
The bouquet unfolds generously, blending notes of dried flowers such as violet, peony, and rose with aromas of red fruits (notably blackcurrant) and black fruits (blackberry), enhanced by spicy hints of cocoa and vanilla. The whole offers an impression of softness, complexity, and indulgence.

Palate
The palate charms with its silky attack, both smooth, enveloping, and slightly sweet. Dense and concentrated, it remains harmonious and appealing. After aeration, the fruit gradually gives way to dried flowers and spices, supported by a mineral, saline, and chalky freshness that structures the whole with finesse.

A red wine from Côteaux Champenois by Louis Roederer marked by elegance and balance

The estate

Founded in 1776 in Reims, Louis Roederer is a Champagne House that has remained family-owned and independent. After more than 200 years of existence, the Champagne Louis Roederer House is still in the hands of the same family. Now led by Frédéric Rouzaud, representing the seventh generation, the Louis Roederer House embodies the excellence of Champagne wines worldwide through cuvées crafted like works of art.

The vineyard

With nearly 241 hectares of vines, the strength of the Louis Roederer House lies in its extraordinary vineyard, exclusively composed of Grands and Premiers Crus in the Vallée de la Marne, the Montagne de Reims, and the Côte des Blancs. A true mosaic of terroirs, the vineyard is divided into 410 plots, reflecting the full diversity of soils in the Champagne region.

The wine

Produced under the AOC Coteaux Champenois, the Hommage à Camille "Charmont" cuvée by Louis Roederer celebrates the spirit of innovation and freedom of Camille Olry-Roederer, great-grandmother of Frédéric Rouzaud. This bold woman is one of the most remarkable figures in the house's history.

As an innovative expression of the Champagne terroir, this single-parcel collection, produced in limited series since 2002, is made from grapes harvested from a 43-are plot in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, in the lieu-dit Charmont.

The vintage

2022 was marked by exceptional sunshine, with a record-breaking July and several periods of intense heat. Despite an overall impression of drought, a few storms in June and welcome rains in mid-August prevented the vines from suffering from a lack of water, ensuring remarkable ripening of the grapes.

Vinification and aging

22 days of maceration with 30% whole clusters. Spontaneous fermentation. Aged for 16 months in French oak barrels (one third new, one third one-year-old, and one third two-year-old barrels).

Grape variety

Pinot Noir (100%).
