Description
An emblematic vintage champagne spanning 120 years
The producer
The Perrier-Jouët Champagne House was founded in 1811 by Pierre Perrier and his wife Adèle Jouët. Stemming from exceptional Champagne terroirs (Aÿ, Mailly-Champagne, Avize and Cramant), the House's cuvées are renowned for their unique style that blends rich, sophisticated and subtle aromas. From 1861 onwards, Perrier-Jouët became the official champagne of Queen Victoria, and then of the French Imperial Court.
The cuvée
The prestige cuvée "Belle Epoque" is adorned with a white Japanese anemone which was first designed in 1902 by Emile Gallé, an Art Nouveau master. Over the years, several international artists and designers such as Daniel Arsham, Bethan Laura Wood and Andrea Mancuso have created original cases that revolve around nature.
In 2022, to mark the 120th anniversary since the creation of the first bottling decorated by Emile Gallé, Perrier-Jouët has commissioned two Austrian designers Katharina Mischer and Thomas Traxler. They have designed a box and screen-printed the 2013 "Belle Époque" bottle, revealing a limited edition champagne.
The theme revolving around nature highlights the house’s respect for its surrounding biodiversity. 70 species are screen-printed on this anniversary bottle. Ladybirds, bees, butterflies and vibrant flowers pay tribute to the emblematic Japanese anemones and adorn both the bottle and its box withthe freshness of spring. This creation expresses the importance of all the living species which contribute to the utter balance of the house’s ecosystem.
Mischer'Traxler have also created a box for the Belle Epoque Limited Edition 120 years 2014 and the "Belle Epoque" Rosé Limited Edition 120 years 2013.
These exceptional vintages come from the most beautiful terroirs of Champagne (Montagne de Reims, Cramant, Avize, Dizy).
The vintage
The flowering period was delayed due to humidity and coolness. In July, the vines were exposed to violent thunderstorms caused by high temperatures. Fortunately, the milder temperatures throughout autumn enabled the grapes to reach a good ripeness level. This cuvée is delicate and boasts an exceptional ageing potential.
The blend
50% Chardonnay
45% Pinot Noir
5% Pinot Meunier.
