Description

Tasting notes and characteristics of the Rosé Vintage Édition Vinothèque 2004 by Pol Roger

Tasting

Appearance
This wine reveals a deep, luminous salmon-pink hue, enhanced by delicate coppery and golden reflections, along with exceptionally fine effervescence.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet is complex and generous. It opens with notes of red fruits such as gariguette, wild strawberry and raspberry, intermingled with aromas of juicy orange. With aeration, hints of sweet spices, brioche and subtle floral and smoky nuances enrich the whole.

Palate
The attack is lively, fresh and sparkling, carried by flavours of citrus and elderflower. The mid-palate offers a generous, creamy texture, revealing a beautiful fruity and mineral structure. The finish, of remarkable length, stands out for its elegant salinity and subtle vanilla notes.

Food and wine pairings
This cuvée will pair wonderfully with delicate dishes such as salmon, pink-cooked meats or small feathered game. As for desserts, it will perfectly enhance fruit tarts or an indulgent crumble.

Serving and ageing
The Rosé Vintage Édition Vinothèque 2004 benefited from extended ageing in the house's underground cellars before being disgorged in April 2013, a process designed to reveal all the complexity of this older vintage.

The timeless elegance of a great champagne signed Pol Roger

The estate
Founded in 1849, Pol Roger is an illustrious Champagne House that first established itself in Aÿ before moving to Épernay. Now led by Laurent d'Harcourt, with Hubert de Billy representing the sixth generation, it is one of the few great houses to remain strictly family-owned and independent. Drawing on an estate of around 92 hectares, this prestigious brand is renowned worldwide for its historic ties with British culture. It crafts wines of great purity, designed for long ageing, that embody excellence and refinement.

The vineyard
The grapes come from around twenty plots classified as Grand Cru and Premier Cru, spread across the prestigious terroirs of the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs in Champagne. These vines thrive on chalky, mineral-rich soils, under the influence of a cool continental climate that ensures slow ripening and beautiful natural acidity.

The vintage
The year 2004 began with a harsh winter, followed by a mild and dry spring. While August proved cool and lacking in sunshine, the first three weeks of September brought providential warmth and sunlight. These ideal conditions allowed the berries to reach excellent ripeness. The harvest accordingly took place from 18 September to 10 October in very good sanitary conditions.

Winemaking and ageing
The making of the Rosé Vintage Édition Vinothèque 2004 is based on plot-by-plot vinification in stainless steel tanks, including malolactic fermentation. The blend incorporates a proportion of still red wine made from Pinot Noir selected for its depth. The cuvée then enjoyed a very long maturation in the deep chalk cellars of Maison Pol Roger, located 33 metres underground. From a highly limited selection, this edition is presented in a wooden case with packaging inspired by the original bottles.
