James Suckling

A pristine style focused on linden tree, white flowers, lemon pulp, tangerine zest and chalk, showing a somewhat austere profile on the nose. Light-bodied, it shines with fine, lingering bubbles and long, zesty, integrated acidity. A polished, elegant finish. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Drink now.

Vinous

Josh Raynolds

(50% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir and 10% Pinot Meunier; 6 g/l dosage): Light yellow-gold. Bright citrus and orchard fruits on the fragrant nose, with hints of jasmine and chalky minerals building in the glass. Plush and seamless but focused too, offering sappy pear and nectarine flavors and a hint of bitter orange zest. Turns firmer on the incisive finish, which shows suave mineral and floral character.

The De Sousa Tradition is a 50% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir and 10% Meunier fermented in stainless steel, unfiltered and finished Extra Brut with a five gram per liter dosage. Fragrant with inviting notes of lemon sorbet drizzled with red fruit coulis, hints of vanilla bean and honeysuckle, the Tradition opens to a wonderfully clean and fresh, light- to medium-bodied palate with red fruits lit up by bright, radiating acidity and a very refreshing, textured finish that offers easygoing and delightful pleasure. Disgorged November 2022.

La RVF

A beautiful aromatic palette focused on freshness and fruit, orchard fruits, almond... The palate is unifying, thirst-quenching, sapid; the dosage coats with precision, and the whole is easy to grasp.

De Sousa's NV Brut Tradition blends 50% Chardonnay with 40% Pinot Noir and 10% Meunier. The wine has an intense yet bright white-golden color with some very light pink reflections. The bouquet is clear, fresh and intense, indicating substantial character. Pure and very delicate on the palate, this is a highly elegant and finessed cuvée, and the recent version is based on the 2014 vintage that was bottled unfiltered in early 2015 and was disgorged in November 2017 with a dosage of seven grams per liter. The finish is pure and shows delicate minerality.

Description

An exceptional Brut champage that blends freshness and harmony

The estate

At the end of the First World War, the "poilu" Manuel De Sousa, a member of the Portuguese Expeditionary Force, left his native land and settled in Avize, France. Sadly passing away due to an illness before reaching the age of thirty, this hard-worker left his wife and children behind. Fortunately, his son Antoine married Zoémie Bonville, the daughter of a winegrower, a few years later, and their union gave rise to the De Sousa Champagne House. For three generations now, the continuous search for excellence and respect for both nature and the environment has shone through the estate’s spirit. At the helm of the family-owned business since 1986, Erick De Sousa is committed to driving forward the work of his predecessors while ensuring that the values of passion and tradition are passed down for many generations to come.

The vineyard

This Brut Tradition champagne stems from the finest terroirs in Champagne, namely the Marne Valley, the Côte des Blancs and the Epernay region. The 25 to 30-year-old vines are deeply rooted in soils composed of clay and chalk. In order to preserve this precious vineyard, Maison De Sousa manages its vineyard according to organic and biodynamic viticultural practices.

Vinification and ageing

Following manual harvesting, the grapes are vinified in vats.

The blend

Chardonnay (50%)

Pinot Noir (40%)

Pinot Meunier (10%).
