Founded in 1912 by the Lhôpital family, the Telmont Champagne House benefited from a succession of visionary generations who all shared a passion for the terroirs of Champagne. In 2020, the French group, Rémy Cointreau, joined the Telmont adventure and the partners share a common ambition that is to preserve the terroirs by practicing organic methods and consolidating a large-scale sustainable project. It is indeed the house’s innovative approach that led Leonardo DiCaprio to join Telmont as a shareholder. Bertrand Lhôpital remains both the Cellar Master and vineyard manager and thus guarantees the quality of centuries’ worth of family know-how.
Maison Telmont spreads across 24.5 hectares in Damery, near Épernay in the Champagne region. Since 2017, some of the Maison Telmont parcels are certified in organic farming. In 2022, the Telmont Champagne House will practice organic farming methods on half of its land.
Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut 2012 is made from parcels in Avize (49%), Damery (25%), Cumières (13%), Mancy (4.3%), Oeuilly (4%), Nogent (1.9%) and Chouilly (1%).
Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut 2012 provides the purest expression of both the terroir and the Chardonnay grape variety. This champagne also gives a voice to the 2012 vintage, the year of a miraculous harvest. During this year, the generous sunshine throughout summer enabled the Chardonnay grapes to ripen perfectly. The result is a Blanc de blancs champagne that is the quintessence of a cohesive floral, fruity and mineral expression.
Vinification and ageing
Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut 2012 follows the traditional Champagne winemaking process. The champagne was corked in 2013. The ageing period in the cellar lasts 8 years. No malolactic fermentation was carried out.
This dosage of this champagne is 5 grams/litre.
This Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut 2012 has a golden colour with subtle acidic highlights.
The aromatic bouquet reveals buttery aromas and a delicate expression of pomelo and almond.
Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut 2012 exudes aromas of white flowers and yellow fruit. A very nice tension harmonizes with the finesse that emerges from this champagne. The finish is pleasantly salty.
